I Was Going To Buy A Watch

I was going to buy a watch
Beautiful and dear
A most elegant way
To watch the seconds disappear

Marble and olive wood
A brand, an aspiration
An aesthetic I thought good
It was to be a special watch

But then I considered
Value and money
How the cheapest pen is priceless
And buyers remorse is funny

I thought of those last days
Seeking consolation from life past
Where would the watch feature?
Would it be first or last?

I considered the value of a memory
Amazon could give no price
Proof that somethings are still sacred
And well, that is very nice

That word, value
A single definition
And yet
So many applications

The same seconds will sink
Into the sand
Be it on a humble Casio
Or a well-crafted clock hand

And I think what I value
Is what most makes my smile expand
That quality so joyous
But hard to plan

I was going to buy a watch
But I've though of something better
Close your eyes, hold out your hand
I've written you a letter
