Watershed

A poem I recently shared in my performance for Lapidus International during Mental Health Awareness Week. You can hear the full performance here.

All the most real reality
Happens after the watershed
On TV, when all the kids
Have gone to bed
In the desert
When clouds tumble
Across the sky
Bringing Rain to battle the dry

In our heads
When tear drops
Escape our eyes
Life begins
After the water is shed
When we allow our tears
And their beauty and presence
We finally accept

Each tear is a victory
Saying more
Than words ever could
Each tear is a victory
Fighting past the barriers
Forced upon us
In our own head
Each tear is a victory

Each tear is liquid history
Drawn from the souls very well
The gentle is the best
At releasing the darkest hell
Be it a single drop or a torrent
Each tear traces it's way
Caressing each atom in nature's play

Each tear is a decision
To move on
And not to stay
Man or woman
Boy or girl
Each tear is more
Than OK
Water is the way

The way to growth and freedom
The key to the way out
Fresh air and finding
A new reason
The changing of a season
These tear
Far greater than
They may first appear

When the tears dry up
And by heat
We begin to fry up
It is that sweet rains return
That helps us
To live and learn
Rather than
Wither and burn
