In Dark Times The Hope Shines

What do you do
When it all turns back to sand?
And society gets caught
In the inequality it wrought
On it's knees now
When it used to stand so tall

But, I guess it's always
Been a little on it's knees
It just wrote a bunch of press releases
And decided to believe
But when the noise stops
And that big spinning penny drops
We can put forward a new thesis

To grasp the inequality
Re-assess our collective priorities
Remember we're a community
You know it's big
When we've even stopped
Worshiping celebrities
Curtain gone, what do you see?

And while some powerful people
Get their heads around a few things
The value of gig workers in our economy
Our entrepreneurs, their ingenuity
The perils of the last few years politically
We've been handed a key
A moment of reflection
Nationally, on who we want to be

There is stock to take
And changes to make
But there is also hope
As we take societies'
Broken bowl
And mend it with gold
Back into a whole

Treasuring what we have
Fixing what broke
We head towards a new normal
With rested feet
And Spring's resurrecting heat
The world around us recovers and renews
It's a moment to see what we've put it through

That gold dazzles
So beautifully bright
It's made of lessons
Small and big
Little blessings
In dark times
Where we felt something deeper shine

In a moment
Our world has changed
May we create some good
Lest it all be in vain
Taking these grief stricken gifts
And through the way we live
Making them into hopeful monuments
