Visible Thoughts, Dave James Horn, David James Horn, David Horn, Poet, Poetry, Folkestone, Kent

There are some dark things happening in Chechnya. Will we as a global community just watch? And if we just watch, are you prepared for what else you might see?

First they came for the gays
To see how we might react
Lives devastated and kidnapped
And the people took photos

They captured this dark moment
As they watched young men
Taken away
Taken away just for being gay

They took photos
And everybody watched
As people’s right to freedom
Was so hideously squashed

But then they came for the journalists
The photo takers
And everyone else just watched
As to darkness they to were tossed

Step by step
People by people
Everyone watched the clock be reset
A time unequal, 1939

But we watched before
And after such darkness we abhored

Will we wait for the history books
To express how this action was deplored?

Or will we rewrite history?
