Football In Aleppo

Visible Thoughts, Dave James Horn, David James Horn, David Horn, Poet, Poetry, Folkestone, Kent

The bombs rained
The buildings crumbled
Disent and chaos tumbled
But the people
They refused to be crushed

The battles raged
Fighters both human and drone
On land and in air
Unleashed war
From it’s cage

Life stopped
Smothered by the dust
Of dead homes and buildings
But the human spirit
Is difficult to crushed

When the storm of war
Had ceased
It’s horrific score
The people stood up
Green shoots through the dust

They rose
Filled with life’s spark
Chasing away the dark
Defiant against war’s
Tragic mark

A game of football their statement
They would not be beaten
They would re-build
Show the world them at their best

This game of football
A celebration of life
A celebration of strengh
The human spirit is strong
It can never fall
